Slip: Phenomenon
A slip is an embodied experience of recognition that does not fit. A structural anomaly. It happens when a lived experience passes through a system of representation: AI, bureaucracy, medical or administrative, human language, visual abstraction.
It is not the transformation itself. It is the moment a passage becomes perceptible, when something moving through a system does not fully obey it. The slip is where that becomes visible.
I experience a system as real when something goes wrong. I don't treat slips as errors to correct. I treat them as sites of inquiry. In French, a slip is also a pair of briefs: the word stays close to the body on purpose, because that's where I notice it first.
Visually, it happens before a form becomes recognizable. Linguistically, before a phrase finds its equivalent. Administratively, before a status is certified. Medically, before a body reads as legible. Computationally, before data becomes truth.
